Dishing Out

While I am a space nut, even people who aren't necessarily into the universe know about the Arecibo Observatory. Made famous by Golden Eye, it has been a part of the Search for extraterrestrial intelligence. But, alas, all good things must come to the end. In a very 2020 fashion, two cables broke earlier this year and earlier this week, the remaining support cables failed and the dish was destroyed by its falling receiver platform. For being the world's largest single-aperture telescope for 53 long years, the Arecibo Observatory is this week’s Rewarranty Story of the Week.
